How we determine if a system of morality is conducive to the needs of an independent individual…or if it is based on myths, illusions and faulty principles?
Last Friday I published “The Objectivist Chooses the Path of Mysticism. I must state that the article is not an endorsement of mysticism. It showed the dangers of the mystical way of life.
No doubt you’ve heard about the virtue of selflessness. I discovered an article from someone named Tara who explains a mystical sense of life.
What is Selflessness?
Being selfless means to put the needs of others before your own – a form of self-sacrifice.
According to Wikipedia “The New Age is a term applied to a range of spiritual or religious beliefs and practices that developed in Western nations during the 1970s. Precise scholarly definitions of the New Age differ in their emphasis, largely as a result of its highly eclectic structure. Although analytically often considered to be religious, those involved in it typically prefer the designation of “spiritual” and rarely use the term “New Age” themselves. Many scholars of the subject refer to it as the New Age movement, although others contest this term and suggest that it is better seen as a milieu or zeitgeist.”
That definition doesn’t exactly say much; however, New Agers of my acquaintance consider it a combination of Christianity and Eastern Philosophy. Take the best of each, eliminate the undesirable aspects and create an inevitable spiritual movement. The result is a mixed bag that displays some positive attributes such as beauty; for instance the music of Enya and the connection to the many wondrous colors of nature. In addition, it reveals some effective motivational techniques. Continue reading “New Age Denial of Evil and Reality”
You probably know…the political and financial establishment seems to purposely march us down the dark road of economic destruction. Because of this unhappy fact, it occurred to me that maybe we should offer you some hope for every day living…especially since continuous economic mayhem is inevitable. We may not be able to do anything about the treachery of the establishment…but we definitely possess the means to overcome the negative thinking and debilitating pessimism of the Hive Mind Mentality.
In Nassim Nicholas Taleb’s marvelous book Fooled By Randomness he suggests that a negative pang (event) has an average of a 2.5 more intensity than a positive pang (event). If this is true, it’s no wonder that the Social Maze pollutes people’s lives with pain and suffering. Continue reading “Illusions of the Hive Mind Mentality”
Individuals on a spiritual path eventually hear about the virtues of non-attachment and self-denial. Some teachings inform them that desire causes all pain and suffering, which obviously has an element of truth.
Once you become attached to your desires…you ride an endless cycle of alternating pleasure and pain…especially if you’re stuck in the Hive Mind Mentality. The Social Maze becomes a troublesome environment of failure and frustration…with a few minutes of pleasure sprinkled in. Continue reading “Illusions of Self-Denial and Suffering”
Today I noticed a billboard that had the following: “Does your vote reflect your morals?” At first glance it might seem reasonable that an individual should vote according to his or her moral principles. At second glance you might realize…this could be dangerous to the liberty and freedom of someone who lives by a different moral code…especially if this person sees through the illusions of the Hive Mind Mentality.
You might wonder…
How we determine if a system of morality is conducive to the needs of an Objectivst Warrior…or if it is based on myths, illusions and faulty principles? Continue reading “False Morality of the Hive Mind Mentality”
During these trying times, many people feel trapped in the Social Maze…unaware there exists a hidden escape route. The Hive Mind Mentality convinces them that the solutions to their problems reside in the external world. Which is certainly an illusion.
In their contradictory mindset, the delusional man or women blames institutions, such as the government for their undesirable predicament…then incredibly, they seek solutions from members of the political and financial establishment.
The above seems crazy to a person who detached himself from the Hive Mind Mentality. Obviously, you’re intelligent enough to see that seeking solutions to your problems from the very people who are dedicated to creating them smacks of insanity. Continue reading “Trapped by the Hive Mind Mentality”
